What is La Craie?

La Craie means “chalk” in French. The hillsides of the Chalk Hill Valley are streaked with a white chalky substance, thus the name of the valley. In fact, it is not chalk but ash from old volcanic activity in the area. Mineral-rich soils contribute to the French flavors favored by the vintners.

The La Craie wines were created by winemaker Tami Collins and proprietors Barry and Phyllis Rodgers. These wines exemplify the quality of Chalk Hill fruit and the talent of our winemaker. In 2009, the 2006 Euphoria took a gold medal at the Harvest Fair, while the 2006 Tall Woman took a silver medal. In January of 2009, the San Francisco Chronicle awarded a gold medal to the 2006 American Celebration. At the 2010 Harvest Fair, 2007 Rhapsody and 2007 Tall Woman took home the gold.
